A heartfelt project in cooperation with the Austrian Post

The first KEBA parcel locker with home advantage.

  • News
In 2001, KEBA installed the very first parcel locker. At that time, the journey was to neighboring Germany. In the meantime, thousands of KEBA parcel lockers have left the birthplace/production site in Linz and have also traveled far beyond the national border and Europe. Now, more than 20 years later, KEBA is pleased to announce the realization of a long-planned heartfelt project: a KePol parcel locker from KEBA in the KEBA area. Together with the Austrian Post, an outdoor location was chosen that is publicly accessible for all people at the KEBA Group AG site, in Linz / Upper Austria.

In just 2 days, the KePol parcel locker with more than 200 compartments was put into operation. Not only KEBAners (as KEBA employees like to call themselves) benefit from this possibility to pick up and return parcels conveniently and contactless 24/7. The new location at Peuerbachstraße 29, 4040 Linz, is easily accessible and operable for everyone on the street side.

Gerhard Luftensteiner, Chairman of the Executive Board of KEBA Group AG, is pleased with the new parcel locker at KEBA headquarters: "It is always particularly nice when in-house developments are used in real operation directly at the site. With the new, publicly accessible parcel machine in the business park, we are automating the first and last mile in parcel delivery together with our long-standing partner - Austrian Post - and offering the population a perfect service with the contactless 24/7 handover option."

Robust and powerful

The KePol FS09 parcel locker selected for this outdoor location can withstand the highest wind and snow loads and, with 223 parcel compartments, provides plenty of space for parcels. With now a total of about 500 KePol parcel lockers and a total volume of about 100,000 compartments, Austrian Post offers its customers nationwide a highly user-friendly and secure round-the-clock parcel service.

"The steady parcel growth in recent years has not only required an expansion of our logistics infrastructure, but also adjustments to our branch and digital offerings. With our approximately 500 pick-up lockers and parcel redirection, we therefore enable individual reception and pick-up around the clock. In KEBA, we have found a strong, domestic partner. It is therefore more than fitting that we have now also been able to put a postal pick-up locker into operation directly in front of the production facility in Linz," says DI Dr. Georg Pölzl, CEO of Austrian Post AG.

Comfortable and sustainable

In addition to the convenience aspect of picking up or dropping off parcels when it fits best into the daily routine in terms of time and location, parcel lockers also take account of sustainability considerations. Parcel lockers make multiple trips by parcel service providers when door-to-door delivery is unsuccessful obsolete, thus helping to reduce the CO2 pollution caused by the movement of goods as well as (inner-city) traffic congestion. "Considering that e-commerce is experiencing strong growth every year, a well-developed 24/7 parcel locker network has a noticeable impact on CO2 emissions," knows Jürgen Kusper, CEO of KEBA Handover Automation GmbH.

Barrier-free and easy to use for all user groups

Following the "Good Practice Diploma" from the Design for All Foundation and the "IAUD International Design Award 2020 Bronze Award" for the project "Postal Self Service 24/7 for Blind and Partially Sighted Customers by Austrian Post AG together with KEBA AG", the KePol parcel lockers now receive the third award for audio guidance for blind and visually impaired people. The audio guide has now been rolled out at almost 500 Austrian Post pick-up lockers. "With all KEBA products, whether parcel lockers, cash recycling ATMs or, for example, charging stations for electric cars, great attention is paid to ease of use for all users," Kusper concludes.
