At the last International Motor Show (IAA) two years ago, KEBA attended with its own booth for the very first time and presented the new generation of the Wallbox KeContact P30. A lot has happened since – now KEBA is a cooperation partner for the new BMW i Wallbox and has more than doubled its e-mobility sales figures since last year.
Electromobility – from hype to breakthrough
The boom in electromobility and its growing market acceptance are being felt by KEBA through increasing demand. Since 2015, the company has tripled its sales in the field of electromobility and has sold more than 40,000 wallboxes worldwide – and this number keeps going up every month. Sales of charging stations go hand in hand with electric cars sales. At this time, about 1 percent of all vehicles sold are electric vehicles. In Norway, a pioneer country in electromobility, the number of vehicles driven electrically stands at 30%. "Current forecasts predict that, by 2025, approximately 25% of all cars sold will be battery-powered electric cars and plug-in hybrids, that number rising to 70% by 2030. Electromobility is evolving from a niche to a valid market,” says Gerhard Luftensteiner, CEO of KEBA AG.
Made in Austria – Software and hardware from a single source
Even Apple founder Steve Jobs knew: „If a trend becomes obvious, you’re too late.” KEBA, an automation company from the industrial, banking, and postal industry, recognized early the importance of electromobility as a future market and has been active in this field since 2009 already.
The company, which develops and produces hardware and software solutions from a single source exclusively in Linz/Austria, combines its sound knowledge of electronic manufacturing with years of experience in the field of machine building. The know-how gained from safety technology and software development influences each and every KEBA development. Another plus for the electromobility area is the company's experience with connecting to back-end systems, as KEBA is familiar with from banking automation.
Extensive development know-how
The company's extensive development know-how has lead to a cooperation partnership with the BMW group: KEBA is producing the new BMW i wallbox for the German automobile manufacturer. At this year's New Mobility World at IAA 2017 KEBA will be demonstrating the possibilities for developing an individual wallbox as an industry partner for OEMs.
