A look back: From pioneer project to industry standard
Back in 2000, when online shopping was still in its infancy, KEBA joined forces with Deutsche Post DHL **to find an efficient and customer-friendly solution** for the growing volume of parcels. Leveraging its extensive experience in bank safe, security technology, and payment solutions, KEBA combined existing expertise with innovative ideas to develop the world's first parcel locker – fully embracing its motto: "Automation by Innovation."
In October 2001, the first systems were delivered to Dortmund and Mainz. This initial phase was marked by challenging installation work and the pioneering spirit of the first service technicians, who set up the lockers under demanding conditions. One example of the team’s extraordinary commitment was a particularly difficult installation during construction work: When the delivery truck couldn’t reach the site due to an impassable road, a forklift was quickly organized to lift the locker over the obstacle. With improvisation and teamwork, the machine was disassembled on-site, transported, and successfully reassembled. The early days, when the first lockers were installed with great effort and creativity, highlight the dedication and passion of KEBA employees.
Since 2008, the KePol FS series has set new industry standards as the first fully modular parcel locker and has established itself as a reliable and proven solution. Building on this success, KePol Flex GL was introduced in 2022, bringing a new level of flexibility to the market with its fast and cost-efficient installation. Today, 3,000 parcel lockers powered by solar energy **are already in operation – demonstrating the successful integration of **sustainable energy sources in parcel logistics.
KEBA continues this efficient path with loxmate:
The latest solution relies on power supply from solar energy and stands out with easy installation and flexible expansion options. At the same time, it sets new standards by offering an optimal balance between a traditional user experience and reduced operation costs.
